Changing Colors

Changing Colors

In light of this project, I have talked with friends about how they experience my birthmark when we are together. In public or how they first reacted to it when they saw it. It gives me a lot of insight how their first impressions were and how their views on it changed over time. One friend wrote on how my port wine stain changes color depending on what she perceives as how I am feeling. It changes from deep purple to light red, also depending on the season. In summer it tends to look more fiery, and in winter, with cold Dutch wind on it, it has more purple or blue-ish tones.
She also writes that depending on my emotional state, the stain colors. When I am more stressed or more tired it seems to be more fiery too. It seems more calmer, when I am more relaxed.
Some friends say that they are so used to it, that they don’t see it as something different anymore. But for instance, when they haven’t seen me for a while, it can all of a sudden hit them that it’s there. I really value hearing their stories, and I learn so much from them. For them it can be confronting, when you’re not used to being stared at, and you all of a sudden walk down the street with me and get all those eyes on you. I love and respect them for being strong and able to fiercely walk beside me <3
